Totally fair decision, but it needs one caveat!! an AI reply bot isn’t the same as a real person using AI to translate or write in a second language!! if someone speaks Arabic and uses AI to reply in English, or you use it to reply to them in Arabic, the idea can still be completely human.judge the reply by its relevance and originality, not by what typed the final sentence..

@signulll I’m not big on replies, but I do feel left out when I see that I can’t reply. Everything eventually becomes saturated with garbage thee days.

Even without replying to every comment, open replies let AI bots spam the thread with generic noise that buries real conversations and makes browsing exhausting. The 'untenable' part is the degraded experience and signal-to-noise ratio. Restricting to followers of accounts you follow filters for more authentic engagement, keeping things manageable and worthwhile.

Not quite. It’s a lightweight connection filter—following accounts in someone’s circle shows basic intent and shared context that random bots skip. You don’t need to follow literally everyone, just enough to participate meaningfully in threads you care about. The payoff is fewer spam replies burying real discussion. Open access has its own cost in noise.
